Friendship’s Day Special: UNUSUAL and HEARTWARMING friendship bonds that viewers loved this year Friendship’s Day Special: UNUSUAL and HEARTWARMING friendship bonds that viewers loved this year Friendship is an essential element in most of our films. Yet there are times when there has been a drought of memorable friendship-based films. 2019 however has proved to be different. There have been at least ten films till now which depicted friendship in a touching manner and are worth talking about. Bollywood Hungama, in this special feature, throws light on ten such friendship bonds. 1. Vicky Kaushal-Yami Gautam and Vicky Kaushal-Kirti Kulhari (Uri – The Surgical Strike) The patriotic blockbuster also touched upon the relationship between Major Vihaan Singh Shergill (Vicky Kaushal) and his brother-in-law Major Karan Kashyap (Mohit Raina). This bit also was quite touching and the demise of the latter is one of the chief reasons why Vihaan decides to go for the surgical strike. But more touching was the equation shared by Vihaan with Pallavi (Yami Gautam) and Flight lieutenant Seerat Kaur (Kirti Kulhari). There was no hint of romance or love triangle and yet it made for a great watch. 2. Kangana Ranaut-Ankita Lokhande (Manikarnika - The Queen Of Jhansi) Jhalkari Bai (Ankita Lokhande) belongs to the lower caste and yet, Rani Lakshmibai (Kangana Ranaut) treats her like an equal, at a time when casteism was rigid. So touched is this spunky village girl that she even gives up her life later on to help the Rani escape. 3. Sonam Kapoor-Rajkummar Rao (Ek Ladki Ko Dekha Toh Aisa Laga) For Sahil Mirza (Rajkummar Rao), Sweety (Sonam Kapoor) is like a breath of fresh air and he falls for her in no time. But on knowing her sexual orientation and that she’s in love with someone of the same sex, Sahil doesn’t run away. He instead helps her in ensuring that the family accepts this union. The film has some very heart-warming characters but Sahil stands out for adhering to his friendship so well. 4. Ranveer Singh-Siddhant Chaturvedi (Gully Boy) This one will go in history as one of the finest friendship bonds ever shown in Hindi cinema. MC Sher (Siddhant Chaturvedi) is like a mentor to Murad (Ranveer Singh). Yet, there is also an equal friendship between the two. The fact that MC Sher gracefully accepts his defeat in the contest and genuinely feels happy for Murad makes the friendship even more special. 5. Talha Arshad Reshi-Vikas Kumar (Hamid) This is a film missed by many but deserves to be seen for the manner in which a relationship develops between the two. The young kid Hamid (Talha Arshad Reshi) calls a number which he believes is of Allah and he asks the person to help him get his father back, who’s missing. The person on the other side turns out to be a tough CRPF jawan Abhay (Vikas Kumar). They don’t meet each other and yet become important part of each other’s lives. This was a fine example of the most unconventional friendship that can happen in our times. 6. Akshay Kumar-36th regiment soldiers (Kesari) The friendship shown here moved viewers and how! Hawaldar Ishar Singh (Akshay Kumar) takes charge of the 36th Sikh regiment, comprising of 20 soldiers, in Saragarhi Fort. There’s friction between Ishar and the soldiers initially but it goes out of the window once they understand each other. And later on, audiences are left stunned when the hierarchy dissolvs and Ishar becomes one of them. The 21 soldiers then fight an army of 10,000 Afghan tribesmen and keep them engaged in a battle for hours. This is possible because they all help each other and even lay down their lives for the common goal. 7. Vidyut Jammwal and the elephant (Junglee) We have seen revenge sagas where protagonists avenge the killing of their parents or lovers. In Junglee, Raj (Vidyut Jammwal) fights the poachers for killing his best friend, an elephant that too. And why not? Friendship can be animals as well and this was shown in this flick. Raj’s closest friend since childhood is the mighty elephant Bhola. Their friendship is depicted beautifully and hence, one does feel the pain when Bhola is shot dead by the poachers. 8. Ajay Devgn-Tabu (De De Pyaar De) This bit is very sensitively handled. Ashish Mehra (Ajay Devgn) has divorced Manju (Tabu) and has left her and his family for years. But a turn of events brings them together. They soon realize that though their marriage fizzled out, they still need to stand up for each other. This part is depicted very well in the pre-climax and though it raised some eyebrows, majority of audiences wholeheartedly accepted it. 9. Salman Khan-Sunil Grover (Bharat) This isn’t unusual as such and is a typical hero and his sidekick kind of an association. Nevertheless, the friendship of Bharat (Salman Khan) and Vilayati Khan (Sunil Grover) is heart-warming and deserves to be talked about. That they remain friends for more than six decades and never leave each other is something that amazed viewers. 10. Shahid Kapoor-Soham Majumdar (Kabir Singh) Most viewers came out of Kabir Singh with multiple thoughts, one of them surely being ‘I wish I had a Shiva in my life’! That’s the impact generated by the dosti-yaari of Kabir Singh (Shahid Kapoor) and Shiva (Soham Majumdar) in this intense love story. Come what may, Shiva never abandons Kabir, even when the latter goes on a path of self-destruction. At one point, he even agrees to give his sister’s hand in marriage to Kabir just so that he stops harming himself! A lot of audiences were aghast but it just shows how much Shiva cared for his ally. https://ift.tt/2Ktad5p
