Following the release of the music video and a series of remixes, British-rock band Coldplay and 21st-century pop icons BTS have released a new remix by the group's rapper-songwriter-producer SUGA for their first collaboration, ‘My Universe’. After their recent meet-up in New York followed by Coldplay's performing an acoustic version with the British group, it seems like SUGA suggested a remix during their NYC meet-up. The lyric video dropped on October 18 and the song is performed in both English and Korean.
While the lyric video is pretty enigmatic keeping with the theme of the different universes, SUGA's remix is more percussion-based with vocals and ghost vocals being highlighted. The vibes are bright and warm when you listen to it. Producer SUGA has been working on collaborative projects for a while and each song is so different from the previous one he has worked on. ‘My Universe’ SUGA’s remix is focused on upbeat melodies, instrumentals and doesn't take away the vibe of the original sound but adds so much more to it. SUGA stays true to his style of making music with the remix becoming an anthem for celebrating love. It would be a hit at every club, festival, and concert.
In a recently released documentary, Chris talked about collaborating with BTS and said, “It’s very special to me that the most popular artists in the world speak Korean and are like a group of brothers, not from the West. It feels very hopeful to me, in terms of thinking of the world as one family. Then of course, when you see who they are and their songs, it’s really a message of togetherness and being yourself.”
The song officially took the first spot on the Billboard Hot 100 chart, marking it the first Hot 100 No. 1 ever by two co-billed lead groups. According to Billboard, 'My Universe' was released September 24 on Parlophone/Atlantic Records and previews Coldplay's album Music of the Spheres, due Oct. 15. Sung in mostly English with some lyrics in Korean, 'My Universe' drew 11.5 million U.S. streams and 5.5 million radio airplay audience impressions and sold 127,000 downloads and physical singles combined in its first week, ending Sept. 30, according to MRC Data.
Co-written by both Coldplay and BTS, the song will be featured in Coldplay's forthcoming album Music of the Spheres. Produced by Bill Rahkko, Max Martin, Oscar Holter, it is written by Bill Rahkko, Chris Martin, Guy Berryman, j-hope, Jonny Buckland, Max Martin, Oscar Holter, RM, SUGA, Will Champion.
'My Universe' follows Coldplay’s worldwide hit 'Higher Power' as the second single to be taken from the band’s forthcoming album ninth studio album Music Of The Spheres, which was released on October 15th, 2021.
