Abhidnya Bhave, who has made her mark in Marathi TV with her strong performances in shows such as Tula Pahate Re, Khulta Kali Khulena and Rang Maza Vegla has entered the Hindi show Bawara Dil. She has been garnering the right attention for her role as Janhavi. This show also marks Abhidnya's comeback in Hindi TV after eight long years. She was last seen in Pyar Ki Yeh Ek Kahani. She is now seen in Pavitra Rishta alongside Ankita Lokhande and Shaheer Sheikh. She sat down with Bollywood Hungama to discuss her career, comparisons in life, proving herself as a performer and the revival of a legacy with Pavitra Rishta.
Abhidnya starts the conversation with the topic of her transition from the Marathi to the Hindi industry, "We keep facing challenges every now and then. An actor’s life is a struggle. I think this is the only industry where you have to prove yourself every time you perform. Nobody gets it served on a silver platter. Everyone has to prove themselves. Even for star kids, they have to. The difference is that they get a couple chances and we have to start from zero. People make you an actor. People who don't have a mentor have to struggle and it starts from scratch. With every project, it starts from zero. And I love that, because it drives you. You can prove everyone wrong every time and show them that you deserve to be here. I enjoy the challenge. I like stepping outside my comfort zone. I wanted to transition from Marathi to the Hindi film industry because there, everyone knew me and it is natural for you to take that lightly and you get lazy. I wanted to get uncomfortable feeling like I am working with people who do not know me and secondly, I have to make sure people remember me for my performance. And thirdly, I want to make a mark with every performance. These things are my priorities and I want to be someone who can be known as someone, directors and producers can invest their trust in. I want them to believe that if there is a role that requires a lot of risk taking, Abhidnya will do it. That's what I want and I am sure I will get there.”
Talking about working with an ensemble cast and whether making a mark can be difficult she said, "I don’t think it is difficult. If your focus is clear, nothing can come in the way. If you have decided how you want your path to look, you will get it. External factors will always be there. And as a performer, as important as it is for me to enjoy my performance, it is equally important for my performance to reach the audience. When both of that goes hand in hand, you get packed as a performer."
She talks about her vision as a performer and says, "I believe an actor has more of a glamour quotient to them. An actor is someone who is multi talented, because you have to dance well, dialogue delivery should be perfect, it is a visual treat. But as a performer, you need to convey the depth of the character to the audience. We are normal people and I would want people to see a realistic side of my character when they can't differentiate. I want to be known for that."
The actress was a huge fan of the first installment of the show and said that she has been through the journey as an audience. “I was an audience. I was a loyal audience. Even before I stepped into the industry, I have been a big fan. I have followed the show and I loved Archana and Manav even then. That is what makes this show special. I have seen the journey, a very tiny part of the journey as an audience. Being a part of the show seems surreal. It is like a dream come true," she said.
When asked about comparisons she says, “I don't take comparisons negatively. It is a challenge. I take it seriously. I take everything seriously. Whatever comes my way- good or bad. I think comparisons have a very positive thing that you get several chances to prove people wrong and to prove to them that they were wrong and I like it that way. I like it when people have a notion about me and I give them the opposite of that. I live for that surprise element. The surprise element attracts me and attracts the audience as well. but there has to be a line drawn, just because people have the power to have an opinion doesn't mean it doesn't affect us. We are also humans and we have had a journey very similar to everyone else’s and it should be respected.”
Speaking about her experience shooting with the leading protagonists, Shaheer and Ankita, she raves about their honesty and genuineness as actors, “It was absolutely fabulous working with both of them. I think Pavitra Rishta- the brand that it is, it only required genuine people. And they both are very honest actors. At the end of the day, everyone works for money but then there comes creative fulfilment, where you want to satisfy your soul creatively, it is another thing. Money can't do that. When actors work beyond that, the project turns out to be the way it is and when the actors are like that. And both Shaheer and Ankita are like that. They are very genuine people."
Talking about what the show means to Ankita, she explains, “ For Ankita, this is her baby. She gets emotional when you talk about Pavitra Rishta because she thinks she is Archana and she is. She lives Archana’s life 24x7.Because whenever you see her character, she has that charm. And even after achieving that level of stardom and to still have that childlike innocence and charm is very difficult. She is that person and it translates on screen.”
Talking about her expectations from the show, she says “What I expect from the show has already started happening. Not only Archana and Manav but all the other actors as well are grabbing everyone’s attention. The character length is what I was looking forward to. If you watch the show, I am almost like a parallel lead, my work is divided- I am not the central character. But even though I am not, people talking about it and noticing is the only thing that I could ask for. I am only going to give my hundred percent and that is my contribution to the legacy. Pavitra Rishta has its own identity, It has already set a benchmark. People noticing me, projects pouring in for me is what I look forward to. I have already proven myself in the Marathi industry and this is an opportunity for me to prove myself all over again, not only as an actor but as a performer. And there couldn’t be a better opportunity than this for me.”
She also talks very fondly of Sushant’s legacy and Shaheer’s courage to take a role that honours one of the biggest shows of Indian TV industry, “Shaheer is so calm and composed, he is so focused. I really respect him for taking this up because everyone knows that this decision would call for a lot of unwanted attention. And as an actor, being at this stage in his career and still taking up this risk is a huge thing. And he genuinely took efforts to keep Manav the way he is. And if Sushant was alive and Shaheer would have been casted for his role in the revival if Sushant couldn't take it up, he would be really proud and happy with the way Shaheer is essaying the character. He does complete justice to it. Pavitra Rishta was his baby too and if someone would walk in and take efforts to make it huge, he would be prouder than ever. And Shaheer and Ankita both in their own way try to give a tribute to him with this. Because Pavitra Rishta will always be his baby. His grandeur gave the industry this masterpiece. I'm sure he would have been very very proud."
