Owing to the pandemic and the consequent lockdown, cinema halls were shut down leading to the postponement of several films that are ready for release. It has been over two months since cinema halls shut down in India. Film producers have now started releasing their projects on digital platforms giving the theatrical release a skip. This has caused a rift between theatre owners and filmmakers. In an exclusive conversation with Bollywood Hungama, Taapsee Pannu gave her views on the Producers vs Theatre owners matter.
On an Instagram live chat with us, Taapsee Pannu was asked about her opinion on the Producers vs Theatre owners matter by a fan. “You know both of them have a reason, a very right reason to feel disappointed or what they did is the right decision. I understand. So many producers are suffering. You have no idea about the money that goes into the making. The exhibitors are not like right now they can help producers with finances. They can only help them when the film screens in the theatres and nobody has a definite answer as to when. So producers are in a tough spot right now. I totally understand where their decisions come from,” the actress said.
Talking further about theatre owners, the actress said, “But at the same time for cinema and theatre owners this is the only thing they do and if those films start coming on OTT they are obviously going to feel like it will become a herd mentality, where one person starts and everybody follows. They probably got worried that this should not be happening. So it is pretty understandable on both sides. Personally, I am a huge fan of the community viewing experience. I would never want theatres to go out of phase regardless of me being an actor or no. I like the idea of hundreds of people sitting in one big hall and watching the film together.”
