Rohit Shetty meets Farah Khan: Why we are more excited about this crossover than Singham – Simmba - Sooryavanshi Rohit Shetty meets Farah Khan: Why we are more excited about this crossover than Singham – Simmba - Sooryavanshi One of the most exciting things about Ranveer Singh’s recent blockbuster Simmba was the crossover bit attempted by director Rohit Shetty. He brought the much-loved lead character from Singham (played brilliantly by Ajay Devgn) to Simmba and it played a huge role in making the film such a grand success. And that was not all. The film ended showing Singham talking to Sooryavanshi (Akshay Kumar), giving birth to yet another venture in this super-hit cop universe. There are also indications that all 3 – Singham, Simmba and Sooryavanshi – would come together in a film and needless to say, it’ll be a film to watch out for. Rohit Shetty however was also working on another collaboration that has come to light today. For his banner Rohit Shetty Picturez, he has signed none other than the blockbuster director Farah Khan for an action comedy to be produced by him. This announcement has been the most heartening news in a long time in Bollywood. After all, both are masters of masala films and their synergies match very well. Both don’t give a damn about the critics and make films for the aam junta. They understand the pulse of the audiences and their films do well not just in single screens but also in premium multiplexes. Farah debuted with the complete entertainer Main Hoon Na (2004) followed by the blockbuster Om Shanti Om (2007). Her third film, Tees Maar Khan (2010), got majorly panned but still managed to rake in Rs. 60.91 crore and was the sixth highest grosser of the year. Her last film was Happy New Year (2014). This multi-starrer too had its share of glitches but emerged as a fine entertainer, raking in Rs. 203 crore. In short, Farah Khan can bring in the money and of course the audiences as well. As for critical acclaim, she has lagged behind but here Rohit’s expertise can pitch in as critics are slowly warming up to his kind of films. Farah Khan meanwhile can add the beautiful 70s tadka to her Rohit Shetty production and thus can emerge a true-blue blockbuster. Moreover, the film surely will be headlined by a prominent actor and actress and this too will add to the hype and buzz. Two years ago, Farah Khan had expressed a desire to make a small, indie film on the lines of Dev Patel-starrer Lion. This was a scary thing to say as Farah is meant for larger-than-life films. It’s great that she didn’t make a festival film to please the critics and chose to dive into a space where she’s a pro. As for Rohit Shetty, he’s surely playing the cards right. He is catering majorly to the masses and pan-India audiences. And this is the need of the hour as more and more people are moving away from cinema halls with the advent of alternate platforms. However, his films are grand and are best enjoyed in cinemas and hence, audiences are more than willing to buy tickets and relish his style of entertainment on the big screen. And now he also has Farah Khan as the partner-in-crime The year 2018 and even 2019 has made one thing clear that directors are as important as the script and writing. Films like Padmaavat, Sonu Ke Titu Ki Sweety, Raazi, Sanju, Stree, Badhaai Ho, Andhadhun and the recently released Uri: The Surgical Strike have proved that content and treatment can make or break the film, more than the casting. Rohit Shetty’s Sooryavanshi and the reported cop universe project would surely be nice but it has generated excitement due to the star cast. The Farah Khan-Rohit Shetty action-comedy however seems more like a winner because of these two masala experts. In fact, even with a not-so-exciting star cast, it can still work big time simply because of their magic. All we can say at the end is that bring it on as we can’t wait to get thoroughly entertained and can’t wait to see what kind of box office numbers they accumulate!
