Many of the roles that have gone into making Ranveer Singh a superstar had first been offered to Ranbir Kapoor. The latest being Gully Boy a film that the brilliant director Zoya Akhtar was keen to do with Ranbir. Apparently, Ranbir had a headspace for only one bio-pic and that was the Sanjay Dutt biopic. Ranveer Singh who had earlier worked to tremendous advantage with Zoya in Dil Dhadakne Do (that too was offered to Ranbir when Zoya Akhtar wanted to make it with Ranbir and Kareena Kapoor Khan as siblings) hip hopped right into Gully Boy. The rest is hysteria. In 2018 Ranveer had two blockbusters. While one of them Simmba was written specially for Ranveer, Padmaavat would have gone to Ranbir if all had been well between the actor and director Sanjay Bhansali. But after Ranbir’s debut film Saawariya Ranbir, for reasons best known to him, he decided not to work with Bhansali. Bhansali offered Ranbir Ram Leela, Bajirao Mastani and Padmaavat. Ranbir refused all three films. Says a source close to the developments, “Ranveer Singh is reaping the harvests of Ranbir’s mistakes, and that includes Deepika Padukone whom Ranbir lost and Ranveer won. The game works both ways. Ranveer overnight lost his role to Ranbir in Anurag Kashyap’s Bombay Velvet. It was a thundering flop.
