Gully Boy: 5 BOHOT HARD moments from the Ranveer Singh – Alia Bhatt film that will stay with you forever Gully Boy: 5 BOHOT HARD moments from the Ranveer Singh – Alia Bhatt film that will stay with you forever Ranveer Singh and Alia Bhatt’s Gully Boy released on February 14 and boy, the film did hit hard with the masses as well as the credits. Zoya Akhtar’s intense, detailed story telling coupled with brilliant treatment and powerful performances by the leads as well the as ensemble cast makes this film a WINNER both in urban and rural parts of the country. Though the film is about Dharavi and the street style rapping adopted by the youngsters there to speak up against various socio-culture issues, the film resonates well with people of all classes. The movie is an earnest attempt by the makers to highlight the inspiring Mumbai street rappers who fought all odds to make it big in life. Everything from the dialogues, songs to the deliciously real camera work in the film speaks directly to its viewers and pinches you where it should. Here’s why Gully Boy is one of the most special films made of our times. If you still wondering if you want to watch it, here are some moments from the film which will get you to book tickets to Zoya’s love of labour right away. 1: Ranveer Singh – Alia Bhatt’s cute, quirky yet REAL romance Wordless conversations, easy body language and communication is what makes Murad (Ranveer Singh) and Safeena’s (Alia Bhatt) romance very relatable and real. What we don’t expect is the unabashed and honest show of issues that crop up between them and how despite all of this two flawed lovers come together, motivate and push each other to grow and rise above the slums of Dharavi. It is also exciting to see their clandestine romance flourish right under the noses of their conservative basti, despite all the interference of external factors and claustrophobia. 2: Alia Bhatt’s unpredictably electrifying moments Alia’s character Safeena Firdousi is sweet (but conditions apply), excessively possessive girlfriend, a little ‘hateli’, bright and ambitious young girl from the Gully who wants to be a surgeon one day. Her desire or Murad is not limited by her circumstance and that is where she connects with Ranveer. In one scene you will see her slip her I-Pad in her boyfriend’s hands to help propel his dream to be a writer and in another instance, she doesn’t battle an eyelid to smash a glass bottle on a woman’s head who may have had a fling with her Murad. Ranveer’s character feeds off her energy, her ‘bindas’ attitude, her ambition and most importantly, her unflinching support. It is a dream to play this carefully and beautifully written character and Alia gives us a deliciously tender yet fierce Safeena with everything she has. 3: Murad’s transformation from a timid, quiet person to an angsty RAPPER on stage Ranveer, in most portions, is just any other Gully Ka Chokra who is asked time and again to keep his eyes down, not dare to dream and be a ‘naukar’ just like his father. His vacant eyes and internal anger is bubbling inside him like lava and what you see on the surface is a just another Gully Boy who would just get lost in a crowd, cursing his nameless, faceless existence forever. But once amongst the rappers, he transforms into someone. His lyrics empower him, his idealistic dreams are the fuel and after a heartbreakingly tough struggle he finally finds his place in the world and somewhere with his poetry, he bridges the gap between the rich and the poor. In two instances, one sees Murad go hard on stage, channelizing his angst and earning genuine applause. The stark contrast between these two demeanours of Murad is every evident and carefully created which adds gravitas to his on-screen persona. 4: Ranveer Singh and Siddhanth Chaturvedi’s bromance Another shining star of his story his Siddhant Chaturvedi who plays Murad’s mentor MC Sher in the flick. Not only does he hold on to his presence in front of Ranveer on screen, his MC Sher is a fitting inspiration to Murad. 5: When Murad finally stands up to his father played by Vijay Raaz Vijay Raaz plays a cruel, unsympathetic father to Murad and a vile, inconsiderate, chauvinistic husband to Murad’s mom Amruta Subhash. While he does everything to make sure that Murad follows his line of work, Ranveer takes all the abuse until there comes a breaking point and he is kicked out from their home (a small room in a jhuggi) by his dad. He puts a roof over his mom and brother’s heads resorting to any work he finds but not giving up on his dreams. What will win you over is the confrontation scene with Raaz towards the climax where Ranveer makes his father understand that in no uncertain terms will he make his dreams coincide with reality, instead his reality will have CHANGE with his dreams. The last shot is when Raaz finally comes around and watches his son conquer his audience with teary eyes. Also Read: WOAH! Will Smith congratulates Ranveer Singh for Gully Boy! http://bit.ly/2TTkdIE
