EXCLUSIVE: Ileana D’Cruz talks about seeing a therapist, urges people to get help when necessary Ileana D’Cruz is one of those actors who have witnessed the ups and downs of being in showbiz. While the actress has been appreciated a lot for her recent performance in The Big Bull, she does not wish to hold herself back in terms of work. While an ace actress like Ileana is expected to have a long list of films coming her way, she has been very picky about projects in Bollywood because she did not want to make a mistake. She had also opened up about her body dysmorphia issues and how they rooted from her teenage years, Ileana D’Cruz spoke about seeing a therapist in an exclusive conversation with Bollywood Hungama. While the actors are expected to be perfect at all times, the pressure of looking great all the time does take a toll on their mental health. Speaking about the same, Ileana said, “I think I was a bit too harsh on myself because sometimes you get photographed and you’re not in your best headspace and it has caught you off-guard and it’s a really bad photo. So, I’ve been very hard on myself with thoughts like, ‘What were you thinking?’ and ‘Why did you wear that?’, but I’ve realized that we’re just human and you’re going to have moments where you are caught off-guard. I’ve been more mindful of something and that is when you’re not in the right headspace and someone comes up to you to have a nice conversation. While it is just a passing conversation for me, to the other person it might be something they will remember for some time. The last thing I want to do is upset someone just because I was having a really bad day. I’ve been there myself and I’ve met some amazing costars and wanted to say hi but they probably didn’t want to talk to me. So, I know how it feels and I’m trying to be more mindful. But it comes with the job.” While mental health is still considered as a taboo in the Indian society, Ileana D’Cruz openly spoke about seeing a therapist and seeking help. She said, “We have one life, if you’re going to try and live it based on how the world perceives you or tip-toeing around everyone else’s emotions, you’re not living it to the fullest. As long as you’re not disrespecting someone or hurting somebody else, you do what’s good for you. I saw a therapist because I felt that I needed to. Initially when I went to her, I didn’t think I needed it and I wanted to prove that person wrong. It was absolute nonsense because I genuinely needed the help. It’s not taboo to ask for help and it’s not wrong to breakdown, to cry, to lose it every now and again. It’s alright, it’s normal, it’s human. I feel like a lot of things need to be eased up on. We need to normalize talking about so many things and not just mental health. I think that we’d be a lot of healthier and a lot of sensitive if we just listen to what the other person has to say.” While she denied doing a movie that she has been rumoured to, she spoke about her potential projects and doing more of OTT projects but with the right kind of content.
