PHOTOS: Anupam Kher speaks about ups & downs of life, cinema and India at Oxford Union PHOTOS: Anupam Kher speaks about ups & downs of life, cinema and India at Oxford Union Veteran actor Anupam Kher is juggling work between India and the US. Last year, he became a series regular on NBC's medical drama, New Amsterdam. Earlier this week, he was invited at the Oxford Union in England where he spoke about ups & downs of life, cinema and India. Sharing a couple of photos from his session, Anupam Kher wrote, "Thank you members of @OxfordUnion and president @genathis98 for your warmth, welcome and appreciation. It was a learning experience to speak to you about my ups & downs of life, about cinema and of course about India. A special thanks to Indian students. Jai Ho." Talking about his life as a theatre artist, he revealed that his first play was a disaster. "My first play was a disaster. All this talk about actors being born is rubbish...even your disaster stories have value. I personally feel failure is an event, not a person." he said. He further said, “I was an educated actor. I was a gold-medalist from drama school but it didn’t mean anything in the 80s. Hairstyle was more important than acting. I was homeless and used to sleep on railway stations...but I did not give up." Anupam Kher further said how he dreamt to become an actor. "People must have the fear of sounding intelligent because they’re coming to “Oxford Union”. I have no such fear. I am from a Hindi-medium school & you’re from English-medium schools but I am sitting here. My life is an example that anything is possible if you dream," he said.
