“As an artist, you should be like a clean slate” – Ayushmann Khurrana “As an artist, you should be like a clean slate” – Ayushmann Khurrana One of the few actors in the industry who voices his opinion unapologetically is Ayushmann Khurrana. He is very keen on working towards the social issues that have been pertaining in the society for generations now. His upcoming film Article 15 tackles a lot of issues in the country that are still not talked about openly, especially in the rural areas. Article 15 is one of the few new-age films that is intensely hard-hitting and will talk about caste discrimination and gang rape. As an actor, Ayushmann has grown a lot from his debut, Vicky Donor and it shows in the way he has portrayed various roles with such ease. He spoke about his views in an exclusive chat with Bollywood Hungama and this is what he said, “As an artist, you should be like a clean slate. You should be completely unblemished. Earlier, I used to wear a kadaa or have a religious thread around my wrist, my mom is very religious. These days I don’t wear anything like that because as an artist you should be areligious. Maybe you’re religious but you should not come across as someone who belongs to a certain segment of society. Because you’re playing a variety of characters and you are accessible to different people, that’s why you should be like a clean slate like you belong to everyone. Use your film as a medium to send across a message, when the time is right you can say something and even give out political statements but there’s no time for that also. I’m sure Article 15 will be like an eye opener and it will trigger the need to bring about social change but you can either protest or be an actor. You can’t possibly do both the things at the same time.” Releasing on June 28, Article 15 is directed by Anubhav Sinha and has quite a promising star cast.
