The first teaser of the highly awaited period drama was unveiled this afternoon. It brings together an ensemble cast including Varun Dhawan, Alia Bhatt, Sonakshi Sinha, and Aditya Roy Kapur. The film also marks the return of Sanjay Dutt and Madhuri Dixit together after 21 years. It is known that the late actress Sridevi was supposed to star in the film. But, due to the untimely passing of the star, Madhuri Dixit stepped into her role of Bahaar Begum. Talking about her decision to step into Sridevi's role, Madhuri said, “Her demise was sad news for us. When I was approached for the role, it was not easy for me. I have immense respect for her. She was a good artiste and a good human being too. To step into the role, when you look in to it as an actress, it’s a different scenario as you add your own inputs to the character, but we used to remember her on sets as she was a part of the film.” Madhuri further added, "Once you start working, you have to move on and do your job. I did that but I missed her too.” Presented by Fox Star Studios, Kalank, produced by Dharma Productions and Nadiadwala Grandson Entertainment, will release on April 17.
