Music composer Wajid Khan recently passed away due to his health issues, even though the musician was detected with Coronavirus, it was not the reason for his death. His wife, Kamalrukh Khan has recently opened up about her experience of being in an inter-caste marriage. While Wajid was Muslim, Kamalrukh is Parsi and the college sweethearts tied the knot under the Separate Marriage Act that allows one to follow their own faith post marriage. Talking about her ups and downs of being in an inter-faith marriage she took to her Instagram to share a long post about the same.
It reads, “Live and let live should be the only religion we all practice.” Answering why she opened up about the issue now, she said, “I am Parsi and he was Muslim. We were what you would call "college sweethearts". Eventually when we did get married, we married for love under the Special Marriages Act (an act that upholds the right to practice one's own religion post marriage). And this is why this current debate surrounding the anti conversion bill is so interesting for me. I want to share my ordeal and my experience in an inter caste marriage - that in this day and age, a woman can face such prejudice, suffering and discrimination in the name of religion is a complete shame...and an eye opener.”
